You do not need a professional setup to keep your pet's coat in good shape. A short, regular routine with the right tools is usually enough, and it is also a nice way to spend calm time together.
1. Start with a gentle brush or glove
For short-haired pets or pets that dislike brushes, a grooming glove feels like petting while it collects loose fur. Go with the direction of the coat and keep sessions short at first.
2. Work through small tangles carefully
For longer coats, a dematting comb can help with small tangles. Hold the fur close to the skin so it does not pull, and never force the comb through a tight knot.
3. Bath time, when needed
Most pets do not need frequent baths. When you do bathe your pet, use a shampoo made for pets and rinse thoroughly. A shampoo dispensing bath brush can make lathering easier.
4. Dry well afterwards
Pat your pet dry with a towel, then let them rest somewhere warm and draught-free until fully dry.
5. Quick check while you groom
Grooming is a good moment to notice lumps, redness, or anything that looks different. If something concerns you, ask your vet.
How often?
It depends on coat length and your pet. Many people brush a few times a week and more often during shedding season. Let your pet's comfort guide you, and reward calm behaviour with a treat.
